Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) )- Gujarat, Jharkhand & Madhya Pradesh

The Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) unit at Jabugam in Chhota Udepur district, Gujarat was established under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between Deepak Foundation and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Gujarat to improve maternal and newborn health in tribal areas.

The center was initiated and became operational in 2006 to provide round-the-clock emergency obstetric and neonatal services within the Community Health Centre at Jabugam. It offered comprehensive care, including normal and high-risk deliveries, cesarean sections, and newborn stabilization, serving a predominantly tribal population with essential 24×7 services. It has become one of the best performing FRU in Gujarat. This model was again replicated in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh: The Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) unit was established by Deepak Foundation in Community Health Centre- Jobat, District Alirajpur of Madhya Pradesh.

Jharkhand: The Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEmONC) unit was established by Deepak Foundation in Community Health Centre- Dumri, District Giridih of Jharkhand in 2017.

Sub- Centre: Health Sub-Centre, Madhuban is operationalized by Deepak Foundation under PPP with National Health Mission- Jharkhand, offering basic outpatient and preventive services to the local rural population. It is the only Health Centre in Jharkhand where deliveries were conducted.

Parasnath Health Center: Parasnath Health Center (also known as Parasnath Arogya Seva Kendra) in Madhuban, Giridih district, Jharkhand, has been activated and managed by Deepak Foundation to address the scarcity of accessible healthcare services in this tribal pilgrimage area

Kalyan Hospital: Deepak Foundation was awarded contract for the operationalization and management of Kalyan Hospital, Erki (Dist. Khunti, Jharkhand) and Kalyan Hospital, Kuchai (Dist. Saraikela, Jharkhand) in 2018. Foundation upgraded both the facilities and provided quality services to tribal populations residing in the catchment area.

Health & Wellness Centre: Health & Wellness Centre in Bhainsli and Ambetha were supported and operationalized through a PPP initiative with Deepak Foundation as the implementing partner, in collaboration with the district administration. Following are the services provided by HWC.

Clinical & Preventive Services

  • Outpatient Department (OPD) services for general health complaints.
  • Screening for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes.
  • Communicable disease screening, including TB and malaria.
  • Maternal and child health services, including antenatal/postnatal care.
  • Anaemia control activities and adolescent health screening.

Help Desk: Deepak Foundation operationalized and manages a patient support/help desk at District Hospital Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh, to assist patients and families with navigation, information, referrals, and access to services under a PPP health systems strengthening model
