Shri A. M. Tiwari, IAS (Retd)

Retired as Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Gujarat, Shri A. M. Tiwari has held diverse portfolios. He held important positions such as Principal Secretary in Education, Social Justice & Empowerment, Tribal Development, and has been the Managing Director of Corporations like GACL, GSFC and GNFC etc. As he has an immense interest in the development sector, he is guiding the Foundation with his technical expertise in the field of livelihood and strategising the implementation activities.

Shri Sudhir Tripathi, IAS (Retd)

Shri Sudhir Tripathi, IAS (Retd) was the chief secretary of Jharkhand State from February 8, 2018 till his retirement on March 31, 2019. He was further appointed as the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission on April 1, 2019 till September 26, 2020.

Shri Girish Sohani

Over 40 years’ experience in Natural Resource Management and Rural livelihoods, Shri Girish Sohani worked on Village Production Systems, Appropriate Technology, Agribusiness and nurturing Farmer Producer Organisations and special involvement in work on Sustainable Development, Circular Economy, and Interdisciplinary Programme Management. He had served as an expert on various Committees of State and Central Government, NABARD, National and International Agencies.

Prof. Anish (Ashish) Sugathan

He is a faculty at the Strategy Area of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and Co-Chairperson of Duggal ESG Centre for Research and Innovation at IIMA. He is a Research Affiliate at the International Growth Center at the London School of Economics and Political Science and previously was an Associate at the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Business and Government. He is serving as a member of the expert committee appointed by the Honorable National Green Tribunal of India for environmental impact valuation, and a member of the Sectional Committee for Sustainable Finance of the Bureau of Indian Standards. He also serves on the board of state-owned electricity distribution utility UGVCL, Govt. of Gujarat, as an independent director and advises several start-ups in the energy-tech and smart governance space.

His research interests are in the area of institutional and governance infrastructure of emerging economies with focus on sustainable development and corporate sustainability in India. His research has been published in reputed international journals, and many national and international dailies.

His scholarship and research have received several awards including the SAP Labs India doctoral scholarship at IIM-B, the Giorgio Ruffolo post-doctoral research fellowship at Harvard, and Fung global fellowship at Princeton. His current research work is supported by BP UK through the PROSPER program, Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) at University of California, Berkeley, and Google through the Geo-for-Good research grant.

Shri S. R. Wadhwa

A Tax Management Consultant and Advocate, Shri S. R. Wadhwa is the former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, and Chairman, Income Tax Settlement Commission. He plays a pivotal role in guiding the Foundation towards financial management and achieving its overall goal of sustainable growth in the sectors of public health, skill building, livelihood generation, children with special needs and education.

Dr. Purvi Mehta

  • Role & Focus: Leads the Gates Foundation’s agricultural programs across Asia, with an emphasis on leveraging agricultural innovation for improved nutrition, smallholder livelihoods, and gender equity in farming systems.
  • Professional Background: Before joining the Foundation in 2014, she held leadership roles at CGIAR, including Head of Asia initiatives at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Head of the South Asia Biosafety Program at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
  • Academic Credentials: Holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, with earlier degrees from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (India) and Tokyo University (Japan).
  • Awards & Recognition: Recipient of the National Agriculture Today Award for policy leadership in 2014.

Shri Gurmeet Singh Randhawa

  • Leadership Role: Gurmeet Singh Randhawa serves as the Managing Trustee of Bangalore Hospice Trust – Karunashraya (BHT-K), a leading free hospice and palliative care provider in Bengaluru.
  • Organizational Mission & Impact: BHT-K, established in 1994, operates a serene 55-bed hospice and an active home-care network across Bengaluru and beyond. It aims to offer compassionate, dignified end-of-life care to advanced cancer patients. The facility recently marked 25 years of service in May 2024.
  • Pioneering Home-Care Services: Under his stewardship, the Trust has expanded its free home-based palliative care beyond Karnataka—for instance, in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack—through collaborations such as the Bagchi-Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre.
  • Strategic Partnerships: In December 2023, BHT-K signed an MoU with the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Bengaluru to provide free palliative care to ex-servicemen and their dependents—an Indian first. 
  • Vision & Contributions: Mr. Randhawa has been a driving force behind both institutionalizing palliative care in India and scaling its reach through community engagement, training, and strategic collaboration. As he has noted, expanding home-care services into underserved regions is part of the Trust’s long-term vision
